Marianne Bitler is a professor of economics at UC Davis and a Research Associate at the NBER. She is also a co-editor of the Journal of Human Resources. Her research studies on the effects of safety net programs on disadvantaged populations and economic demography. Recent work has paid particular attention to the effects of food assistance programs.

  • This project evaluates whether summer feeding programs buffer against adverse medical outcomes with a focus on racial inequities.

  • This project will evaluate how increased nutritional assistance through SNAP affects racial inequalities in infant health, providing causal evidence of the relationship between SNAP and infant health under recent expansions of the SNAP benefit amount that vary by income level and type, timing, and duration relative to date of conception.
