Nora Sandigo
Nora Sandigo is the founder of the Nora Sandigo Children Foundation (NSCF), which supports immigrant children and families. A refugee from Nicaragua, Sandigo began NSCF in the 1980s to assist refugees with essential resources like immigration paperwork and housing. Her advocacy led to the Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act of 1997, gaining her national recognition. In 1997, she began serving as a legal guardian for children of detained or deported immigrants, a role that grew to include nearly 1500 children. Her work has been featured in major news outlets and the documentary "The Great Mother."
