Six New Research Projects Will Investigate Impacts of Childcare, Labor Laws, Healthcare, and Civic Inclusion on Immigrant Well-Being
Policies for Action (P4A) announces six new research projects that will examine the social, economic, and health impacts of state and local immigration policies on immigrant communities. The projects examine policy drivers of economic and social mobility, and identify policies that can narrow inequities and improve the quality of life for immigrant groups and their communities.
P4A’s grant-making enables a diverse cadre of researchers to provide evidence for data-driven policymaking.
The following research projects are now underway:
- Social & Health Impacts of Childcare Assistance for Undocumented Immigrant Families in New York City; Grantees: American Immigration Council; SUNY College at Old Westbury
- Local Resident Voting and the Civic Inclusion of Non-citizen Immigrants; Grantees: Chinese For Affirmative Action and San Francisco State University
- Policy on the Frontlines: Narrative Research for Immigrant Well-being; Grantee: Leah Zallman Center for Immigrant Health Research at the Institute for Community Health
- Evaluation of the Oregon Overtime Pay Legislation (HB-4002) among Latinx Agricultural Workers and their Families; Grantees: Oregon Health & Science University
- Deeper Than Race: Exploring Black Immigrant Maternal Health in the United States; Grantees: The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Black Alliance for Just Immigration; African Family Health Organization
- Shifting Grounds: Assessing the Impact of Florida’s Immigration Policy on Immigrant Families; Grantees: The University of Texas at Arlington and Nora Sandigo Children’s Foundation
Findings from these research studies will provide important evidence for policymakers about the social, economic, and health impacts of policies on immigrant communities. Results will shed light on how policies that create access to childcare, fair labor practices, healthcare, and inclusive narratives can support community stability, economic integration, and well-being among diverse immigrant populations.
Policies for Action (P4A) is a signature research program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), administered through the national coordinating center at the Urban Institute. Since 2015, P4A has awarded over $33 million for research identifying policies, laws, and other public and private sector levers that can support RWJF’s vision of achieving a future where health is for everyone. Along with the other signature research programs, P4A is helping to explore the root causes of health disparities in America and identify potential solutions to improve health, equity, and well-being.
