Past Research Hubs

The Policies for Action Research Hub at the Center for Public Health Law Research at Temple University’s Beasley School of Law aims to support policy innovation for health equity through empirical research and legal analysis. The Hub is currently focusing on how laws and legal practices related to housing can help create healthier, more equitable communities.

The Policies for Action Research Hub at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, teamed with researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Columbia University, is examining the continuing course and impact of health insurance expansion and alternative models of coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

The Policies for Action Research Hub led by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research and the University of California, Berkeley, focuses on income enhancement and workplace policies that help working parents, especially those struggling to make ends meet, to have the time and financial resources to protect and invest in their family’s health.

The Policies for Action Research Hub at NYU’s Wagner School will extend their original research portfolio (to include a stronger focus on housing instability, criminal justice, and education), and further advance the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s focus on healthy communities, by examining the effects of non-health policies on health in the context of place.

The Policies for Action Research Hub co-located at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Institute for Health Research and Policy and the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis is studying the implementation and impact of public policies focused on improving children’s diet and activity levels.

The Policies for Action Research Hub at the University of Michigan is focused on a group of emerging policy innovations for which there is currently a fair amount of action and activity, yet little solid evidence. This includes Pay-for-Success initiatives, “Health in All Policies” efforts, and interventions targeting super-utilizers of health care.

The Policies for Action Research Hub at the Urban Institute is investigating a wide range of policy levers and cross-sector collaborations that are influencing health and well-being, including analyses of housing and food sector policies; state fiscal and income-related policies; and the impact of the opioid epidemic on children's health.

The Policies for Action Research Hub at Vanderbilt is uniting a rich set of health and education data to better understand the challenges faced by children in Tennessee, especially those who are at risk of falling behind on key health and educational outcomes.
